At a time when cash and in-person payments dominated Ghana’s economy, Encodev Labs built and launched MPower Payments—a unified digital payments platform that gave merchants and individuals a powerful, secure alternative.
The platform supported payments via mobile money (MTN, Airtel, Tigo), Visa/Mastercard, bank accounts, and even in-store vouchers. MPower featured strong fraud detection, admin tools for reconciliation, a developer-friendly API, and was accessible via web, mobile, SMS, and USSD.
Recognizing the platform’s potential, Encodev Labs partnered with SMSGH (now Hubtel), accelerating adoption and growth. MPower quickly became the preferred payment solution for over 10,000 users and merchants, processing more than GHC1 million in monthly transactions.
It received national recognition at the TopApps Awards, including Finance App of the Year, Web App of the Year, and Most Innovative App. MPower set the standard for Ghana’s digital payments ecosystem and laid the foundation for future platforms.
